How to clean a WebP
- Drop your WebP files above.
- Check what was found, such as camera details, dates or editing information.
- Download the cleaned copies. The image is not re-compressed, so the quality is unchanged.
WebP stores metadata in separate blocks inside the file. The tool removes the EXIF and XMP blocks and updates the file header so it stays valid. You can choose to keep the color profile, which helps colors display correctly.
Animated WebP files are less common and have not been tested, so check the result after you download it.
Questions
Does it convert my WebP to another format?
No. The file stays a WebP. Only the metadata blocks are removed.
Why does my WebP have no metadata?
Many WebP images made by websites or apps already have none. In that case the tool tells you that no hidden data was found.
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything runs on your device, and the tool does not download any extra files to process your photos.
Does removing metadata reduce image quality?
No. The tool removes the metadata blocks from the file without re-compressing the image, so the pixels stay exactly the same.
Why keep the photo rotation?
Phones often store a photo sideways and use a rotation tag to display it upright. If you remove that tag, the photo may appear rotated. The rotation tag holds no personal information, so keeping it is safe. You can turn it off.
Does it remove the data from the original file?
No. Your original file is not changed. You download a new, cleaned copy.
Which files can it clean?
JPG, PNG and WebP. Other formats, like HEIC from iPhones, are not supported yet. Convert them to JPG first.
