What is EXIF data?
EXIF data is information that cameras and phones save inside photo files. It can reveal more than you expect.

- No quality loss
- Stays on your device

What EXIF data contains
- The camera or phone model, and sometimes its serial number.
- The date and time the photo was taken.
- Camera settings, such as exposure and ISO.
- The GPS location, if location was on for the camera.
- The software used to edit the photo.
Other hidden data
Besides EXIF, photos can contain XMP data, IPTC fields (such as author and copyright), comments and embedded preview images. This tool shows what it finds in each of these.
Why it matters
When you send a photo as a file, hidden data can go with it. A location in a photo taken at home, for example, can reveal where you live. Many social networks remove some metadata when you upload, but you cannot count on that everywhere, so it is safer to clean photos before you share them.
Questions
Is EXIF data harmful?
It is not harmful by itself, and it is useful for organizing photos. The risk is sharing it by accident, such as your location.
Can I see EXIF data without a tool?
Many computers and phones show some of it in the file's info or properties panel. This tool also lists other hidden items, such as comments and extra data attached to the file.
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything runs on your device, and the tool does not download any extra files to process your photos.
Does removing metadata reduce image quality?
No. The tool removes the metadata blocks from the file without re-compressing the image, so the pixels stay exactly the same.
Why keep the photo rotation?
Phones often store a photo sideways and use a rotation tag to display it upright. If you remove that tag, the photo may appear rotated. The rotation tag holds no personal information, so keeping it is safe. You can turn it off.
Does it remove the data from the original file?
No. Your original file is not changed. You download a new, cleaned copy.
Which files can it clean?
JPG, PNG and WebP. Other formats, like HEIC from iPhones, are not supported yet. Convert them to JPG first.
